Though this was a holiday week I had several meetings including School Board member Eleanor Goettee, Mayor Faulkner of Morrisville, and several groups with special interests.

I met with Eleanor Goettee on Christmas Eve to discuss concerns of Cary citizens with the proposed reassignment. Ms. Goettee expressed concern herself but believed that the reassignment plan is a good one and vowed to support it. She also stated that most of the school board members are firmly behind this proposal. In my discussion with her for over an hour we did talk about the actual process of creating the reassignment plan. Based on this discussion I found out that there is a software program with numerous variables which generates the plan. I have asked to meet with Assistant Superintendent Chuck Delaney to discuss these parameters so that I can better understand the criteria used for making the reassignments.

After Christmas I met with Morrisville Mayor Faulkner. We discussed many of the projects both towns have in progress and agreed to continue efforts to coordinate plans. We spent a significant amount of time on the Park West proposal which is under review by the Morrisville board and has generated concern by many Cary residents. Mayor Faulkner agreed to send me specific details on the Park West proposal. She stated she has not completely made up her mind whether or not she would support this project.

The remainder of the week was spent doing interviews and talking with groups and residents about concerns and interests. Concerns included noise generated by traffic on Highway 55 and parking problems downtown between Tenacious hair salon and Cindy’s restaurant. Interests included continuing programs with Economic Development and the Chamber of Commerce, creating programs to promote Wake County Character Education, and creating a water Adequate Public Facilities Ordinance.

The week finished on a very positive note as I read and presented a proclamation at Cary’s Kwanza celebration.

Have a great New Year! Talk at you later…
